Our Chickens...

The Araucana

The Araucana is a breed of chicken originating in Chile. It is well known for its blue eggs, and may be confused with other fowl, especially the Ameraucana and Easter Egger.

North American breed standards calls for a chicken that is rumpless (missing their last vertebrae and lacking a tail), may or may not possess ear-tufts (feathers that grow out from near the birds' ears), and lays blue eggs.

The Araucana's eggs are not more nutritious than eggs of other colors, nor do they have any negative health effects.

The Ameraucana

The Ameraucana shows many similarities to the Araucana, including the pea comb and the blue egg gene. The Araucana may or may not have ear tufts and is rumpless; the Ameraucana has a tail and has tufts and bearded. The earlobes are small and round, the wattles small or absent; earlobes, comb and wattles are all red. The shanks are slate-blue, tending to black in the Black variety.

The White Leghorn

The White Leghorn Chicken is the most popular breed of white egg laying chickens. They are the most popular commercial strain of white egg layers in the entire world. Leghorn Chickens will lay an astounding 280 large white eggs per year. The Leghorn is a vocal and active bird as well as an excellent forager.
